Here are some stories from some who have placed through us some who have adopted through us and the impact we had on them.
Katie's Story
"I'm twenty-two years old, and my daughter is two-and-a-half. I chose the Miriam Project for my open adoption. I can remember how scared I was- not only being pregnant, but feeling so alone. The Miriam Project made me see how beneficial they would be. They not only understand this hard time is a life-changing experience, but their extensive background check on families made me feel so comfortable. The family I chose is awesome! The second I met them I knew they were the family for my baby girl. Adoption is a way to give your baby a chance at life, and it's giving the gift of life to a women who can't bear a child. Choosing an open or closed adoption is your preference. I chose open, and it's the hardest, but it's the best decision I ever made. I get to see my daughter every six months, her mom sends me pictures and letters all the time, and I talk with them on the phone. My daughter will know me as her birthmother, and I get to see her grow. You may feel overwhelmed, but there is no pressure. You can plan for whatever is best for your baby, and everything else will fall into place."
Laney's Story
"I was already the mother of two children when I learned I was well into an unplanned pregnancy. The timing couldn't have been worse. After I prayed about adoption and talked with my boyfriend about it, I called the Miriam Project. Brooke made me feel so at ease and comfortable, assuring me all the decisions would be mine. I decided I preferred an open adoption and a couple without other children. Then when I met Kara and Steve it was almost as if God whispered in my ear that they were the ones. When I went into labor, the fact that I would be giving birth to a baby who would not be coming home with me became real. To say I wasn't sad and unsure would be a lie, but I knew I was making the best decision for my child and giving Kara and Steve a wonderful gift. Our six-month visit was wonderful. They could not possibly love my daughter more, and every picture and letter I received reinforces how happy I am to have taken this journey. It's hard, but I've given my child the wonderful gift of life, and I know her life will be wonderful."
Brittany's Story
"Trey was three and Eliza was two when their mother, Brittany, contacted the Miriam Project. Brittany explained that she could no longer provide for her two precious children. She was currently without a job and almost homeless. She sat with the Miriam Project staff and verbally painted a picture of the life she wished for her children: stability; a large, loving family; and their basics needs met. Brittany interviewed an adoptive family and immediately knew they were the ones. Trey and Eliza have been with their forever family for a year now and are thriving. They are growing and developing, and every need they have is met- all because of the selfless love of their mother, her courageous decision, and the love and devotion of their forever parents."
